Migration has been high on policy and political agendas all over the world. Migratory flows can have long histories and infuse gradual change over extended periods of time or they can emerge suddenly and bring about concentrated and sweeping responses. Whatever their origin, duration, and impact, migratory flows have been and will continue to be part and parcel of broader societal transformations. Migrants move in search of employment, family reunification, or safety, and in the process change their own lives, the lives of their families, and the lives of entire communities on both the sending and receiving ends of the migration process. Migration is thus one of the defining features of our era.

Recognizing the growing and universal importance of migration, the KU Center for Migration Research seeks to encourage and facilitate the production of state-of-the-art scholarship in the following key areas:

• Forms, directions, and dynamics of internal and international migration flows in the U.S. and around the world;
• Unique features and consequences of forced/refugee migratory movements;
• The role of sending and receiving contexts in shaping migrants’ experiences and the transformations of these contexts as a result of migration;
• Innovative interdisciplinary approaches in migration research;
• Translational research seeking to reach broad audiences and inform policy decision-making.
