Writing

From the Ground Up is pleased to present select written works that explore themes in landscape.

We will endeavor to present only works written particularly for the From the Ground Up project or works of an exceptionally essential nature as recommended by our project participants.

To start things off we offer Edward Casey's Edges and the In-Between, first presented at our May 9, 2009 workshop in Lawrence, Kansas. Professor Casey is a pre-eminent philosopher specializing in place and imagination.

We also offer a link to The Spirit of Place by D.H. Lawrence.

Hypnogeography, an essay by Robert Kelly, inspired the first Imagination&Place conference which eventually led to the formation of the From the Ground Up project. The original essay is available in Doctor of Silence, published by McPherson & Co. and available at https://www.mcphersonco.com/cs.php

Robert Kelly came to the 2001 conference in Lawrence and developed his theme in presentations subsequently published by the journal Cottonwood Review. His contributions can be found in PDF form at http://www.rk-ology.com/index.php?pr=HYPNOGEOGRAPHY_pdf
