Title: Pick Up Sticks, by Jenna Coon Artist: Fine Arts, KU Medium: oil on paper Height: 15.000" Width: 22.000" Keywords: Jayhawk Blvd, KU, Lawrence campus Landscape painting has finally opened up my eyes. Although I am originally from Minnesota, this is my third year that I have been in Lawrence, Kansas. I thought I got it, I’d seen it and felt it but not until this class. I knew what I ‘thought’ Kansas looked like over the past couple years but I never really paid close attention until Landscape painting. I realized there were endless possibilities for a composition, color schemes and techniques. It was overwhelming at first but once I slowed down and really looked at the vista, i got it. I saw the details that make the Kansas geography so beautiful and enticing. Once the autumnal colors captivated me and the vistas became compositions, I realized it was more than a ‘pretty picture’ but a narrative from Kansas itself. Jenna Coon |
