THEMES: My work maps and tracks relationships of interior landscapes. I make physical and digital objects meant to physically and metaphorically reflect the connections between things: ideas, memories, a figure to its environment, a needle to material, travel between cultures, places of the mind, touch relative to healing and repair; and ultimately the intersections of art and life. One thing leads to another and nothing is ever really finished. In practice: I am compelled to layer things… stack, bundle and bury them, journal, conceal, stitch, bag, reveal, overlay, and incorporate. I see surfaces as skins that reveal the character of a thing’s experience. I collect distressed materials with the impulse to bring them back (or forward) to life. I often force associations between seemingly uncomfortable partners to explore their possible compatibility. Digital/Video work has evolved over time to integrate the physical objects and introduce the diversity of project partners, sound, movement, scale and audience.
